(I realize Father’s Day was almost a month ago, but my blog contribution just shows that I’m taking time to reflect on the real reason for the holiday. It has nothing to do with me being too lazy to write a couple of paragraphs. Promise).
Father’s day is my new favorite holiday. It used to be Christmas, for obvious reasons, and if Hallmark has enough lobbying power to make it a holiday, NBA draft day could be a contender. But, starting this year Father’s day is my new favorite holiday. It’s not like Father’s day of the past haven’t been great, but this year was awesome. Perhaps, it’s just me getting old and senial sentimental but I really appreciated Dad’s day this year. It wasn’t just awesome because I got what I asked for either — sleeping in until 8 and beer.
Payton gave me a great gift. She colored a photo frame with her picture inside and wrapped it up with some leaves she had picked. She was so proud of her work and told Mom she “worked really hard to stay within the lines”. I wanted to take into my office, but she asked that I keep it in my desk at home so she can check on it.
We had a great time at Oak Meadow Park in Los Gatos. We did some of my favorite family activities — baseball, soccer and shoving cookies into our mouth. The highlight was the steam engine train ride and carousal ride.
If you want the unfiltered version of Dad’s day, my sister did a four part mini-series on the eight hours we spent together. The Library of Congress is going to feature it once they clear a few more petabytes of storage for her pictures. And yes, I lifted all her pictures since Dad’s shouldn’t have to take pictures on their day.
